Rusty Coy started playing the drums at
the age of 14 in Joplin, Missouri. To
practice, he set up speakers on both
sides of his drum set, played his
albums, and drummed along.  "I don't
know how my parents and sisters could
stand it," Rusty admits with a chuckle.

In high school, fellow R.O.T.C. Drum
and Bugle Corps members never failed
to request Rusty's performance of
"Wipeout" after every rehearsal.

With the teachers, however, Rusty's
drumming was less popular. They
kicked him out of class for beating on
the desk during class and sent him to
the principal's office more than once.

Among Rusty's primary influences are
drummer
Sandy Nelson, CCR, The
Animals, and Iron Butterfly. He recently
discovered a new "hero" in
Huub
Janssen. Rusty loves the blues and has
a taste for old country music. A good
groove and catchy lyrics, regardless of
musical style, will appeal to step13's
"Dr. Sticks."

I would like to thank all of my family for
putting up with all the noise all these
years.  I also want to thank all the guys in
the Dolen Brothers and the Ramblers.
Thanks to my good friends and band
members of step13--Connie, Arthur, and
Chris. You guys rock.
